Voting in the 2022 General Election


How to Register to Vote

Your last day to register to vote or update your registration online, automatically receive a mail ballot, with prepaid postage, is October 25th, 2022! 


Eligibility Requirements

To register to vote, you must meet the Nevada standard registration requirements:

  • U.S. citizen
  • At least 18 years of age by the next Election Day
  • A resident of your own county for at least 30 days and a resident in your precinct for at least 10 days
  • Unexpired, current NEVADA Department of Motor Vehicles (NV DMV) identification card (driver’s license, state ID card, or an interim document). An unexpired temporary “interim document” will be accepted. 


Same-Day Registration

For new or updated voter registrations, voters can register to vote AND cast their ballot at a designated polling location during Early Vote or on Election Day from October 22th – November 4th, 2022 and on November 8th, 2022.

Voters who want to do Same Day Registration must have a current, unexpired NV issued ID to complete their voter registration. If a voter does not have a current NV issued ID, they must provide one of the additional documents below:

  • Military ID
  • Bank or Credit Union statement
  • Paycheck
  • Income tax return
  • Car registration or insurance
  • Utility Bill
  • Mortgage statement or lease agreement
  • Any government doc

For updates to existing registrations, you can also do so in-person 28 days before Election Day, on or before October 11th, 2022.  You may also update your voter registration up until 5 days before Election Day, on November 8th, 2022.


Rights Restoration

With the passing of AB431 (2019), Nevadans who are formerly incarcerated, regardless of probation or parole status, have their right to vote automatically restored! Voters may register to vote by any available means.

Confidential Address Program (CAP):

Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, or stalking have the option to participate in CAP. This prevents them from being located through public records by providing them with a fictitious address and confidential mail forwarding services.

**CAP participants will not show up on the voter roll and must vote by mail.


Voting in the OCT-Nov 2022 General Election

  • Vote By Mail: All active, registered voters will automatically receive a mail ballot with prepaid postage. Simply fill out your ballot (you don’t need to vote for every office), seal it in its included return envelope, SIGN THE ENVELOPE on the outside, and drop it in the mailbox.
    • Mail ballots arrive by September 23rd, 2022!
    • If you do not receive your mail ballot by the beginning of Early Voting Week 1: (October 22nd-29th, 2022) immediately contact your local Elections Department at (702) 455-8683 (Clark County) or (775) 328-3670 (Washoe County).
    • Ballots must be postmarked ON or BEFORE Tuesday, November 8th, 2022, and received by 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 10th, 2022.
  • Fill out your ballot and drop it off at a designated polling location or ballot dropbox: Instead of mailing your ballot, fill it out, as described above, SIGN THE ENVELOPE, and drop off your ballot at a designated polling location or ballot dropbox of your choice, from October 22nd– November 4th, or on election day, November 8th.

  • A trusted individual CAN drop off your voted mail ballot: Voters can designate a trusted individual (family member or friend) to turn in their ballot by mail, ballot drop box, or polling location. There is no limit to the number of ballots a person may drop off.
  • Vote in-person during Early Voting (October 22nd – November 4th, 2022) or on Election Day (November 8th, 2022): You will be required to “surrender” your blank mail-in ballot or sign a form that says you will not attempt to vote with that mail-in ballot.

    • In-person voting locations will be taking precautions to provide social distancing, enhanced cleaning, and hygiene, and will have extra masks to provide to voters.
    • When voters surrender their mail ballot, the election worker will write “CANCELED” on there

Remember: if you vote using the ballot you receive in the mail to SIGN THE OUTSIDE of the envelope on the designated line. This is how the Election Department will verify your ballot. If you don’t sign, your County or City’s Election Department will attempt to contact you to verify your ballot. If you don’t respond, your ballot will NOT be counted! Sign your envelope!

 

November 14th, 2022: Last Day to Cure Ballots 

What does it mean when a ballot needs to be “cured?”

A ballot needs to be cured when there is a discrepancy or missing signature. If your ballot needs to be “cured,” the Election Department will contact voters by mail, email, phone number, or text message.


If a voter requires assistance:

A person cannot mark and sign a mail ballot on behalf of a registered voter, except at the direction of the following persons:

  • A person with a physical disability, who is unable to read or write, or a person who is at least 65 years old

If a person marks or signs a ballot on behalf of these persons listed above, they must:

  • Indicate that they marked and signed the ballot on behalf of the voter, next to the signature
